The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) of India is building a road along the steep sides of the Zanskar gorge, with the eventual goal of an all-season motorable road connecting Leh and Padum.

 

Once completed, the road will see the end of the Chadar as a cultural and utilitarian entity.
